National Apprenticeship Week 2022 - Building for the Future with Nathan Shaw

At Siemlus we are always looking to the future and no more so than with our team. National Apprenticeship Week 2022 is the 15th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships. The week brings together businesses and apprentices from throughout the country to highlight the significant boost that apprenticeships have on individuals, firms, and the economy as a whole.

The theme 'build the future'; reflects on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.

At Siemlus, innovation runs through our DNA, but we like to feel that we are more than just technology. We are solving human problems by integrating innovative technology. We are future human.

Apprenticeships give us a chance to nurture talent in-house by providing young people with an opportunity to develop their skill set through working on live projects, whilst studying for formal qualifications at college or university. Apprentices bring fresh ideas and new ways of thinking.

So we would like to introduce you to Nathan Shaw who is a member of the Siemlus Team and is currently studying for his Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship. We wanted to shine a light on the great work Nathan is doing and his experience as an apprentice so far.

Tell us a little about the apprenticeship you are studying?

In order to progress to my Level Four Digital Marketing Apprenticeship, I am now undertaking  my Level Three Digital Marketing Apprenticeship. I decided to become an apprentice because it looked like a perfect way to break into the profession at the age of 19 and obtain real-world experience that would be useful when looking for positions in the future. Apprenticeships are also well-known for assisting with the development of soft skills.

What made you choose this apprenticeship?

I picked a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship because it sounded intriguing, and I've always been fascinated by the internet and how companies interact with their customers. It also addressed a lot of areas that I'm interested in, like SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and Social Media Marketing. The course is quite diversified, which adds to the enjoyment of my employment.

What key areas does the apprenticeship cover?

The Apprenticeship encompasses a wide spectrum of digital marketing abilities. The Apprenticeship, for instance, has taught me about SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing, and Web Development. These skills are crucial to learn because they are used on a daily basis in my employment.

What are you enjoying most?

I like the fact that the apprenticeship programme allows me to learn both within and outside of work, allowing me to apply these new abilities to my job position on a daily basis. Apprenticeships are ideal for this because you are continually learning and improving your abilities on the job. The course is also a lot of fun because it covers a lot of things that I'm interested in.

How did you end up joining the Siemlus team?

My college tutor sent me to Siemlus because he knew I was seeking for an Apprenticeship. Siemlus was seeking for a Digital Marketing Apprentice, and it felt like the ideal opportunity to showcase what I had learned before joining the Siemlus team.

What have you learned since you joined the team?

I've learned a lot about Digital Marketing and Apprenticeships in general since joining the Siemlus team. Apprenticeships vary from other jobs in that they allow me to participate in "Off the Job Training," which allows me to gain new digital marketing skills while working with my apprenticeship employer. This enables me to bring in what I've learned off the job and apply it to my day-to-day work. It's fascinating to observe Apprentices from both sides of the table at work.

What are your aspirations for the future?

My long-term ambition is to work as a Digital Marketing Manager. I'd like to work with an agency and assist firms in transforming their online marketing platforms. Apprenticeships have allowed me to expand my abilities and knowledge, which will be useful when I apply for jobs in the future.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others and why?

I would strongly advise others to pursue an apprenticeship because it is a fantastic way to break into the field. Apprenticeships are also recognised for assisting in the development of soft skills that are connected to the work position and are required when applying for jobs. Every day, you can learn something new and apply it to your career, making the apprenticeship enjoyable.
